I work intuitively to create abstract reflections of the subconscious which are always scratching just below the surface. Using paint, ink and fibers I build up many layers until I see patterns and images begin to emerge. It’s these "found" images and patterns that I use to enter into a dialog with the work. I endeavor to reveal what I see but like a dream, it’s delicate and often dissipates at an attempt to articulate it. Motivated by process, discovery and on rare occasions capturing the truth.
My portraits are an extension of my doll work. With paint I can develop layers of texture and color that wouldn't be possible on a linen doll. Painting portraits allows me to delve deeper into each character, I explore archetypes, symbols and dreams.
