The scullery maid is part of my 2019 Archetype collection. Based on Carl Jung’s concepts of archetypes, the scullery maid represents the “orphan”. A mainstay in folk and fairy tales the world over, she’s been abandoned, and is only one step away from the work house or worse. The maid’s maid is a life of never ending chores from before the sun comes up to after the sun goes down. Nonetheless, our orphan maintains a spark in her heart…she imagines a better life for herself…which allows almost magical opportunities to arise.
Constructed from a hand dyed linen and filled firmly with Canadian wool, her face and boots are hand painted, her hand stitched sari-silk hair hides under a linen mob cap . She has antique mother-of-pearl button joints which allow her arms and legs to move, adding to her charming character. Her bloomers, apron and dress are made from linen and are not removable. All of my art dolls are heirloom quality and would be a lovely addition to any collection. She is approximately 9.5” tall and comes with a very rustic, handmade broom. Art dolls are are not intended for small children or unsupervised play. Each of my dolls comes in a handmade cotton drawstring bag for safe travels.
